BIRMINGHAM, MI, September 1, 2021 – A new sculpture, Pyramid Earth, gifted to the City of Birmingham by award-winning artist and educator Kegham Tazian, has found its new home in Linden Park. The community is invited to attend an unveiling ceremony at the intersection of the Linden Trail and West Maple Road on Friday, September 10 at 5:30 p.m.

The 400-pound bronze sculpture, gifted to the City of Birmingham with support from the Cultural Council of Birmingham Bloomfield and the Hagopian family this summer, is now on display in Linden Park. According to Tazian, Pyramid Earth is a “monument to our world – a realistic globe set on two pillars representing a sign of trajectory and strength.” He added, “When immigrating to the Detroit-area over 55 years ago, Birmingham was where I first lived. I’ve been a prolific artist in the community and would like to give back to my roots.” This summer, Tazian was honored by Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Representative Mari Manoogian for his lifetime of achievement in arts and education.

Armenian-born Tazian has gained much notoriety for the diversity and variety of media exemplified in his artwork and for his dedication to art education in Southeastern Michigan. A blend of modernism, realism and abstraction are commonly depicted in Tazian’s artwork which has been represented in over 40 solo exhibitions and more than 75 group exhibitions throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and the Middle East. His work adorns the entrances and halls of major corporations, universities and municipalities, universities and now, the City of Birmingham.

“We invite the community to join us in celebrating the unveiling of the City’s newest sculpture and hear from artist Kegham Tazian,” said Brooks Cowan, City Planner. “Birmingham is home to many art and cultural organizations, and we welcome residents and visitors alike to enjoy Pyramid Earth and all of the artwork on display throughout the City.”
